Obituary for Edna Joelena Vailes McVay Cathey

Edna Joelena Vailes McVay Cathey, 79, of Norris City, passed away, December 18, 2017 in Harrisburg.

She was born in Equality on October 29, 1938 to the late Elbert Lee and Winnifred (Slaton) Vailes.

Edna was a member of the former Miracle Temple Church of Wasson, where she taught Sunday School. She was a C N A for several years.

Edna is survived by her children, a son, Billy Gene (Tammy) McVay of Carrier Mills, two daughters: Barbara (Donnie) Campbell of Norris City and Donna McVay of Norris City, ten grandchildren: Savanna McVay, Kelsey McVay, Charles Fitzpatrick III, Melissa Floyd, Amber Floyd, Heather Owen, Aaron Paul Eugene McVay, Carmen Campbell, Cailee Campbell and Nata Taborn and 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Jerry Elbert Vailes and a sister Gracie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins. Edna was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene McVay and her second husband, Rev. Glen Cathey and her son Paul Eugene McVay. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Jesse Lee Vailes and John Earl Vailes and five sisters: Frances Butler, Shelbia Gay Riley, Sandra Kay Bartley Cutchin, Shirley Ann Kelley and Sharon Sue Cuttrell.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Wolf Creek Cemetery with Rev. Toby Hise officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Watson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
