Obituary for Willard D. Wilson

Willard D. Wilson, resident of Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, IL, formerly of Eldorado, IL, passed away on January 15, 2019 at the age of 91.
Willard was born August 1, 1927 to John F. and Maude (Burns) Wilson in Coulterville, IL. He was born into a farm family who had settled the farm in the early 1800’s. As a young adult, he owned a malt shop where he made fresh pies. Over a 20-year period, he worked for Halliburton in Robinson, Olney, Crossville and Flora, IL. He retired from Scotlad Food Distributors in Eldorado IL where he lived for 40 years prior to his death.
Willard was an avid fisherman and spent many hours fishing on the Ohio and Wabash rivers along with numerous lakes and ponds around Southern Illinois. He was a dedicated gardener of flowers, berries and tomatoes. His pies and fudge were legendary in the family. He loved hunting for mushrooms every spring. He picked pecans in the fall and was known to spend many hours over the winter picking perfect halves. In his younger years, he spent many hours searching for arrow heads and kept meticulous records of his finds.
He will be greatly missed by his children: David Wilson, Richard Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Marilyn Wilson-Crowe, Amy Wilson and Edward Wilson and spouses, along with grandchildren (Sam Wilson, Heather Bute, Nick Wilson, Alex Wilson and Joshua Davis) and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, wife (Bessie Adams), daughter (Joyce (Wilson) Davis), daughters-in-law (Martha (Peters) Wilson and Elaine (Gardner) Wilson), son-in-law (Joel Crowe) and two grandsons (Jonathan and David Leslie Jr.).
The viewing and visitation service will be held on January 21, 2019 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, IL from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.
Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Wabash Christian Village Chapel.
