Obituary for Virginia Lee Stokes

Virginia Lee Stokes, age 94, passed away at 10:03pm June 18th, 2019 surrounded by her family at home in Eldorado, IL. 
Born on March 12th, 1925 in Galatia, IL to Amon and Ethel (Smith) Jones. She married Hillis Stokes on February 14th, 1946. Virginia worked in many capacities during a variety of careers and retired from Southeastern Illinois College as secretary to the dean of adult education.
She is preceded in death by her son Stanley Stokes, her great grandchild Claire Beaver and her three sisters Jaunita (Dale) Nolen, Clesta (Donald) O’Neal, Madeline (Ingle) Horn and sister-in-law Velda (Charles) Yates.
She is survived by her husband Hillis Stokes, son Brad (Julia) Stokes, daughter-in-law Sue (Stanley) Stokes, sister-in-law Hazel (Millage) Schaffer, five grandchildren Amanda Stokes, Beth (Adam) Hughes, Matthew (Sarah) Beaver, Jarred (Kris) Beaver and Delena Stokes, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was an active member in church and enjoyed singing every Sunday morning in choir. She also enjoyed camping frequently and cooking her signature dishes for her family. She was able to celebrate 73 years of marriage with her husband Hillis Stokes this year and has left behind a legacy of love for her family to cherish forever. 
The family extends a special thanks to the employees of Hospice of Southern IL and TLC Home Care Services, Inc for their compassion and caring.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20th from 4pm-7pm at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado IL, with funeral services to follow on Friday, June 21st at 10am. Burial will be at Tates Chapel church cemetery in Galatia IL.
